Wedding Insurance

I know right now you’re saying, “Do we really need ANOTHER insurance policy, we don’t even use our health insurance!” and I was in total agreement with you at one point. As a Colorado Wedding Consultant (NOT an insurance pro and so therefor you should look into this yourself and not sue me) I can honestly tell you….no, you probably won’t need it. But what if you did?

5 Reasons You SHOULD CONSIDER Wedding Insurance

  1. To protect your investment: Wedding insurance can cover expenses such as deposits, vendor no-shows, and cancellations due to weather or illness. Imagine your future hubby / wife or one of your parents can’t make it because they are sick - you’re covered.

  2. Liability coverage: In case of accidents, injuries or property damage, wedding insurance can provide liability coverage. If (and god forbid and we hope none of your guests would do this but things happen) one of your guests had an accident of some sort at your wedding, maybe they slip and fall, and they are going to sue - they will go after the venue first who will have insurance, then the bartender and then guess who is next on the line - you.

  3. Your venue likely requires it. Check your contract for this and be sure you meet their specific requirements.

  4. Affordable: Wedding insurance policies can be surprisingly affordable, with coverage starting at just a few hundred dollars. In the grand scheme of wedding planning this is nothing.

  5. Customizable coverage: You can tailor your wedding insurance policy to meet your specific needs and concerns, ensuring you have the right level of coverage for your big day.

How do we get it?

Plan to have the folloring on hand:

  • Insurance specifications from your venue. Pull out that contract and search for the insurance subsection to find your venues minimum requirements. If you are unsure of what’s required, give them a call.

  • Your venue’s physical address, email address, and phone number. If you have 2 separate locations for ceremony AND reception you will want to add both into the policy.

  • A decision on what all you want coverage on in addition to liability like whether you want cancellation / postponement insurance, host liquor liability and naming additional insured vendors.

  • Your wedding date.

  • Your credit or debit card for payment.

My go to for wedding insurance is always One Day Event Insurance. They make getting coverage that fulfills your venue’s requirements quick, easy and always include host liquor liability if you mark that you will have alcohol at your wedding. Bonus: I have found this to be the most cost effective option around.
